Let me start off by saying, O...What...A....Day :)! Today Alyssa & I went to the lake. We wanted to get our first tan of the summer :). Notice I said "tan"?....not "burn."...Yup apparently I forget to tell the sun that. It's my own fault I know, I told myself that I wouldn't BURN myself this summer because not only does it HURT, but it's extremely BAD for your skin :S.ooooops! I am now suffering from a painful burn! I'm REALLY not doing that again! After going to the lake we went to work. I picked up Hannah on the way but neither Hannah & I started work until an hour after Lyss so we had an hour to kill. We decided to walk to Mac's :). Last year when Hannah worked at DurhamSchool of Music with me, every Monday we had an hour and a half spare at the same time so it become tradition to walk to Mac's :). Today we got slurpies, just like old times and drank them on the way back, only to find out that when we got back we BOTH HAD ORANGE lips and teeth from the slurpies. How embarrassing...especially because we had to TEACH SOON. I frantically licked my teeth and lips like a CRAZY PERSON ...and it worked :). I no longer had orange teeth....but it didn't matter, because my first student didn't come....and my second student didn't come. (It's her second last lesson before her PIANO EXAM....ahhhhhh) ...and then I had a spare. So if my students had CALLED I wouldn;t have had to come into work until an hour and a half later. Oh well. That's how life goes sometimes! :) My next student ACTUALLY showed up...thank goodness :). She has an exam in a couple weeks and I recently have been very nervous that she might fail, because she does NOT practice like she should. We had a "mock exam" last lesson which she laughed through and fooled around and basically didn't even care about. We had a little talk last lesson but I wasn't sure if it even made a difference. Today she came in and played EVERYTHING almost perfectly!!!!!! Not only is she going to pass now, but she is ACTUALLY going to get a good grade!!! Wow...that is DEFINITELY a load lifted off my shoulders. Although I did all I could with her and nothing else could be done UNTIL she practiced I still would have felt bad if she failed...but I can't practice FOR my students ALTHOUGH I OFTEN ...very often....wish I could! I told her after she was done "Did you know that right now I am the HAPPIEST teacher in the WORLD?" :) :) Finally the stress was off & then my new student walked in the room. Her parents told me that she was taking an exam in 3 weeks. I didn't worry too much because I figured her last teacher would have her pretty much ready. You know what they say....NEVER ASSUME! Three weeks is NOT enough time to teach her everything she needs to know. There is stuff she has to do for her exam that she has NO idea how to do. "Well stress, it was nice to say good-bye for a LITTLE while, but might I say, WELCOME BACK!"
This is a little bit how our conversation went
Me- "Have you ever done playbacks before?" (She has to do playbacks for her exam- the examiner will play something, she plays it back)
Her-"A PIGGYBACK? What's THAT?"
Me- "I said a PLAYback!"
Her-"No! WHY did you say PIGGYBACK?"
Me-" Ummm....ok, I will show you what a playback is next week. Have you ever done a clapback?"
Her- "OBVIOUSLY"
She is an 8 yr old girl & I honestly could NOT tell if she was being rude or that's just how she talks...I have no idea...She left her lesson after our half hour was up and I think I sat there in a confused state for a while like "what on EARTH just happened!" Our whole lesson was me asking her if she knew what so and so was and her either saying... "no" while giving me a sigh like "hurry up and show me already...FOR REAL aren't we done learning new things?" or a "yes" (OR "OBVIOUSLY") while kinda rolling her eyes as in "WHY ARE YOU EVEN ASKING ME THIS, Of course I KNOW!" It was definitely one of the weirdest lessons of my life...! We'll see how next wk goes :S! On a not so happy note, something is wrong with my car I think...which means I have to say good-bye to my PAY CHECK :s....!!!!!!!
lol, students.... is is the brakes on your car? :(
